The Decimal Point

In the lab, we often need to measure things smaller than 1 whole. The decimal point is our most important tool. It separates the whole numbers from the "bits and pieces" called Tenths.

The Tenths Place

When you divide a whole into 10 equal parts, each part is a tenth. In decimals, we write this as one spot to the right of the dot.

1/10

"One-tenth is the same as zero point one."
