- Short Hand: Points to the Hour. (Read the big numbers)
- Long Hand: Points to the Minutes. (Count by 5s)
1 = :05
3 = :15
6 = :30
9 = :45
The Gears of Time
Watch how the hands work together. Notice that when the minute hand moves, the hour hand moves a tiny bit too!
The 5-Minute Rule
The numbers on the clock (1-12) are secret codes for minutes. To crack the code, multiply the number by 5!
$3 \times 5 = 15$ minutes
If the long hand points at the 4, it's 20 minutes ($4 \times 5 = 20$).
